Interpreting the labelling and naming of European standard charging cables

Date:2024/6/20 2:55:12

In presenting the interpretation of the designations of the European standards, we can organise them as follows:

Rated voltage class U0/U.
  - U0 is the value of the voltage effective between the conductor with insulation and the shield and dielectric.
  - U is the effective value of the voltage between any two phases of a multi-core cable or a single-core cable.

CE Marking.
  - The EU safety conformity mark, indicating that the product meets the standard requirements of a series of European directives on safety, health, environmental protection and consumer protection.

Model 121.
  - The jacket material is EVM-1 for charging mode 1 of IEC 61851-1 (rated voltage 300/500V).
  - The specification range is 3x1.5mm²~3x2.5mm².

Model 122.
  - Sheathing material EVM-2, also suitable for charging mode 1 of IEC 61851-1 (rated voltage 300/500V).
  - The specification range is 3x1.5mm²~3x2.5mm².

Model 123.
  - Sheath material EVM-1, suitable for charging modes 1, 2 and 3 of IEC 61851-1 (rated voltage up to 450V/750V).
- Wider range of specifications including 3x1.5mm²~3x35mm², 4x2.5mm²~4x35mm², 5x2.5mm²~5x35mm².

Model 126.
  - DC charging cable rated at 0.6/1KV AC or 1.5KV DC, sheath material EVM-1.
  - Suitable for charging mode 4 of IEC 61851-1.
  - The specification range is 2x4mm²~2x150mm² + ground 4mm²~95mm².

EVI-1 and EVI-2.
  - EVI stands for halogen-free insulation compounds according to IEC 62893 and EN 50620.
  - Only EVI-2 can be used for power line insulation, EVI-1 and EVI-2 can be used for control/signal lines.
  - EVI-1 and EVI-2 have different performance requirements such as tensile strength, elongation at break, etc.
  - EVI-1 requires the use of a thermoplastic material (TPE), while EVI-2 requires the use of a halogen-free cross-linked material (XLPO).

EVM-1 and EVM-2.
  - EVM stands for halogen-free sheathing compounds for cables in the IEC 62893 and EN 50620 standards.
  - EVM-1 and EVM-2 have different performance requirements, such as tensile strength, elongation at break, and tear resistance.
  - EVM-1 requires the use of a thermoplastic material (TPU), while EVM-2 requires the use of a halogen-free cross-linked material.
